Material & Craft
The pendant begins as hand-carved wax before being cast in brass, refined by hand and set with a natural Botswana agate. Its pierced openings, uneven edges and pressed surface keep the irregular rhythm of lichen rather than smoothing it into a symmetrical ornament. A clean S925 sterling silver choker carries the warmer brass form. Brass will gradually deepen in colour and develop a natural patina with air, touch and wear; this change belongs to the material rather than indicating a flaw.
Wearing & Styling
The fixed silver circle sits high at the collarbone, while the broad pendant gives the necklace a clear horizontal presence. Wear it against black, washed grey, deep brown or moss green so the openings and agate remain visible. It can stand alone above an open neckline or close-fitting knit; if layered, keep the second necklace longer and visually quieter so the lichen form retains its space. Lost-wax casting does the rest. The wax melts away, silver fills what remains. What emerges is rough, honest, full of the maker’s decisions. Then the slow work begins — filing, polishing, setting stones one by one, until only what belongs is left.
